HOMELAND

PUERTO RICO
________________________________________________________
Now that I have the experience of being far away from home I realize that I really was born and raised in an Island of Enchantment. You hear many people complain about how things are in the isle thanks to blurry political issues, but toss that aside and you will actually enjoy a precious place were you can still find amazing spots that takes your breath away.

I am from MAYAGUEZ, a city located in the Western side of the island. It is the "Sultana del Oeste", "Land of Pure Waters" and home to the mango fruit! Mayaguez also hosts the University of PR, Mayaguez Campus. This is the #1 university within the island, with a history of excellence and valued professionals! The Western area, considered countryside, is also called "Porta del Sol". I can definitively say that tourists miss a lot by staying in the capital and its surroundings.

The Western area has many interesting and lovely spots:

  • The Zoo, back in my hometown
  • The Lighthouse of Cabo Rojo, my favorite spot in the whole island
  • The Caverns of Camuy, unique and baffling
  • The Observatory in Arecibo, unique in the world
  • Combate, my favorite beach
  • Isla de Gilligan, another favorite beach/isle
  • The Lighthouse of Rincon, and Rincon is the capital of Surfing!
  • Porta Coeli, a historical place filled with mystery
  • Bioluminiscent Waters in Guanica Bay
